A lifelong learner at heart, Dr Jagyaseni Chatterjee, brings with her the rich synthesis of dance intellect, style, scholarship and performance excellence imbibed through direct training from her Guru, Dr Lakshmi Ramaswamy, Founder and Secretary of Sri Mudhraalaya, a 33-year-old institution.

She also draws deep inspiration from Padmashree Chitra Visweswaran under whose training Dr Lakshmi Ramaswamy has spent many of her formative years.

At Sri Mudhraalaya, Jagyaseni plays a multifaceted role as Senior Faculty, Head of Administration, and a core member of the Repertory. She leads classes for children, adult beginners, and intermediate learners, introducing new approaches while remaining firmly grounded in classical technique. Her commitment to inclusive and holistic teaching is reflected in the way she designs modules, making learning accessible, engaging, and rooted in tradition.

Extending the reach of Sri Mudhraalaya across geographies, Jagyaseni also offers online Bharatanatyam classes to students in India, the United Kingdom, United States, and Australia bridging continents through rhythm and rasa.

Alongside Dr Lakshmi Ramaswamy, she has consistently assisted in Arangetram training, year after year, and has been appreciated for her dedication, clarity, and empathy as a mentor. Her involvement spans not just the classroom but the entire artistic ecosystem of the institution - from choreography to event curation and student development.

Firmly anchored in the Guru-Shishya Parampara, Jagyaseni is deeply committed to carrying forward the legacy and flagship values of Sri Mudhraalaya - a beacon of excellence in Bharatanatyam training and performance.

All of this began with her mother’s quiet dream - a wish woven with the love of art. Soma Dey, a distinguished veteran of the Bengali entertainment industry, whose presence has graced the silver screen, stage, and television, nurtured in her daughter the seed of creativity. It was her mother’s unwavering belief that Jagyaseni must grow not just to learn art, but to live it - and so began a journey that continues to honour that legacy, one step at a time.
